Hope

Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. It comes from your own self because its your own self thinking of what could happen or what you want to happen. Hope can be restored by someone doing something that they love and will know the outcome of what they are doing. Peoples hope can be threatened when they are imagining a outcome of something and the outcome is the total opposite of what they thought. A story of hope that I have is from a friend that was trying a trick when skating a 9 stair. He thought the outcome would be good and thought that he would land it that day. He tried it 60 times i na row and finally gave up because he was just sticking it and not landing it. He got his hopes up so much that it got to his mind and took over his mind. This caused him to think of it so much that he would keep bailing when he landed cause he had to much on his mind when trying to skate the 9 stair.

"The Ones That Walk Away From Omelas" refelction

In the short story, “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas,” by Ursula Le Guin. There is a child that lives in a basement by himself. This child is in the basement because the people of Omelas believe that this child would ruin all their happiness. This child only gets fed and when people see this child, some of the people go home in furious and sad. Some of them don't go home, the people that walk away, because they are so furious that they leave the kid in the basement. The ones that walk away are the ones that don’t like the fact that this child is stuck in this basement just because people believe he is not up to pair with everyone else. I see parallels between this society and my own society because when we begin school we are indoctrinated to sit down and be quiet. When people do this it often makes us kids think we should never speak our minds and or speak up to our authorities. I believe that would match their society because by them keeping the kid in the basement he doesn't believe that he should speak his mind and ask for help to get out of the basement. They said in the story that he used to scream for help but he never got help so he just stopped screaming.

Reflection on Gilbert's Ted Talk

We all tend to create our own happiness and how it’s like a mental immune system, also called, “Synthetic Happiness.” Our happiness is also worse when we are able to choose something instead of being stuck with it. For example in Dan Gilbert’s ted talk he talk about an experiment they did with two paintings for college students. One group of students had a choice to pick one of the two pictures but were able to think for 4 days and see if they wanted to swap out the pictures. The other group of students had to choose from two pictures and were unable to switch out the picture at any time. The results of between the two groups were that the ones with the choice to swap out there pictures were not as happy as the group that was unable to swap out there pictures. The reason why they were unhappy is because they knew they could have gone back and choose the other picture. The ones that were unable to change their pictures were happier because they knew that they could only keep the picture they hoose and had no choice of switching out the picture. I’ve had to do this before to for skating. I had to choose between getting a trick for a skate video cause I only had time for one more trick. I had to choose between to heelflip a four stair or front shoving a six stair. I chose the heelflip because I knew that it look cooler to do rather than the front shove. I was happier that I chose that trick than the other trick.

Happiness

The things that make me happy is skating, hanging out with family, friends, and etc. Happiness is where you are able to enjoy the thing you are doing. For example if your going to work, you should be able to wake up in the morning and tell yourself that you are not going to work you are going to something that you love. It is important because without happiness you would not like your life. The secret to getting the happiness you want to do something you love instead of doing something that you don’t love. The reason why so many now a days are unhappy is because they don’t do a lot things that they love in life. Happiness has help me life because I have found out all the things that make happy and I like to enjoy. Happiness has a big part in people's lives because it shows everyone they can do something without saying they “hate this” or “I don’t like this.”

Stereotypes

People are put into stereotypes all the time. I remember there was a time when i was put in a stereotype of being a bad person cause I yelled at someone for knocking me off my skateboard. After, I yelled at him for doing the person that put me in that stereotype came up to me and asked me why I was being so mean. I said “He pushed me off my skateboard for riding it fast past him.” When I said that he understood and thought of me different and now we have been friends ever since. People always look at the outside of someone and judge what they are like rather than trying to get to know the inside of them. The person that tells you they don’t judge you is the one that mostly judges everybody around them. Like the time when I was skating past someone fast and he pushed me off my board and he called me mean when it was the other person that was mean.

My favorite place

My favorite place I have been to is Disneyland. Disneyland is my favorite place because all the rides. My favorite ride is California Screamin because it is the most intense. The ride is so fast that you go on a loop and you don’t even feel it. Disneyland has new rides like the cars:the movie ride. I have heard that the ride is fun because it looks like the scene in the movie when Lightning McQueen was with Sally. The Matterhorn I think is the second funnest ride because you are on a mountain and there is even a snowman in the middle of the ride. In the Matterhorn you are going up a tall mountain. The place was built by a man named Walt Disney. He built it on July 17 of 1955. It is located in Anaheim,CA. It costed seventeen million dollars to build the amusement park. It lies on one hundred sixty acres of land.

My Reading Life

In my reading life I have had a good book that I have read in the past and I am reading now Called World War Z. I like this book because it involves zombies. Zombies are a good topic in a book because we will be able to prepare ourselves for a zombie apocalypse. I have had bad experience reading. One example is I was reading and then I had to write a essay on the whole book. I really didn't like the idea of this cause I would like to read a book for fun. I don't like when I read a book and I have write an essay or summary on it. The reason for this is because I feel like doing this has nothing to do with the book and the assignment has nothing to do with us learning. I feel like reading should be a fun thing that students do.
